JEE Mains 2020 Scam: Proxy Candidate was produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Guwahati

Guwahati: The proxy candidate, Pradeep Kumar, who has written the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains 2020 held at the Ion Digital Zone at Borjhar on September 5 for Neel Nakshatra Das to top the exam has been produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Guwahati.

Pradeep Kumar was arrested by a special team of Assam Police in Delhi on Sunday then brought to Assam from Delhi on an Indigo flight. After that, he was taken to the Azara police station from the Guwahati Airport.

While addressing the media the city police commissioner said, they suspect Pradeep Kumar to be a professional proxy candidate. It is also suspected that Pradeep Kumar is also involved in engaging proxy candidates.

Azara Police on November 1 arrested Bhargav Deka, the owner of the Global Edulite, a Guwahati-based coaching center in the same case related to the use of proxy candidate in the JEE Mains 2020.

On October 28, Azra police arrested a total of 5 people, including a Guwahati-based specialist doctor, in connection with the case. The arrested specialist doctor was Dr. Jyotirmoy Das, a gynecologist of Down Town Hospital in Guwahati.

Dr. Das was allegedly asked Pradeep Kumar to sit in the examination on behalf of his son, Neel Nakshatra Das.

A case (No 624/2020) was registered in Azara Police Station under sections 120(b)/419/420/406 IPC r/w 66D Information Technology (IT) Act after an FIR was lodged stating that a student from Assam uses the proxy to appear the exam on his behalf and topped JEE Mains 2020.

As per reports, the court has granted bail to Neel Nakshatra Das. However, his father, Dr. Jyotirmoy Das is still in jail.
