JEE (Main) scam in Guwahati: State topper & four others remanded to police custody

Five persons arrested in connection with the recent JEE (Main) examination scam in Guwahati, were produced before the CJM Court here on Thursday.

GUWAHATI: Five persons arrested in connection with the recent JEE (Main) examination scam in Guwahati, were produced before the CJM Court here on Thursday. The court has remanded the accused to five-day police custody.

The CJM Court has also rejected the bail pleas of all the five accused.

Among the arrested persons are Neel Nakshatra Das, who topped the State list using a proxy candidate and his father — DrJyotirmoy Das. The Police also arrested Hemendra Nath Sarma and PranjalKalita — two employees of the 'Tata Consultancy Services' that conducted the examination as well as Hiru Kamal Pathak – the invigilator of the examination held at the 'Ion Digital Zone' at Borjhar here on September 5.

Sources said Neel Nakshatra Das has confessed before the police that he has no ambition either to become a doctor or an engineer. He was under tremendous pressure from his parents to become a doctor or an engineer. Mentionably, the JEE (Main) results indicates that Neel has secured All India Rank (AIR). With 99.8 percentage, he is also the State topper.

On the other hand the owner of the private coaching centre as 'Global Edu Light' which is located at GNB Road, Ambari, has not yet cooperated with the police in the investigation. The owner BhargavDeka is yet to be traced, the police informed.
