GUWAHATI: With the intervention of Assam Petrochemicals Ltd Chairman Bikul Deka, 27 casual employees of Namrup Thermal Power Station (NTPS) withdrew their indefinite fast at Namrup on Thursday.
The casual employees were on the hunger strike demanding regularization of their jobs and hike in pay. They have a seven-point charter of demands. They have been working on fixed pay for the past 12 years.
Deka assured the casual employees of meeting their demands, took them to Bijuli Bhawan in Guwahati and made an arrangement for their meeting with APDCL (Assam Power Development Corporation Ltd) Chairman Vinod Kumar Pipersania and Managing Director Kalyani Baruah.
During the meeting, Pipersania and Baruah agreed to fulfil the demands of casual employees. They told the employees that their demands would be met and till the demands are met their fixed salaries will be hiked.
According to Bikul Deka, the casual employees are satisfied at the assurances given to them by the Chairman and the Managing Director of APDCL.
