Jorabat police busted car thieves' gang ; 8 held

The Jorabat police on Thursday night busted an inter-State gang of car thieves and arrested eight criminals, while recovering two stolen vehicles.

DIMORIA/GUWAHATI: The Jorabat police on Thursday night busted an inter-State gang of car thieves and arrested eight criminals, while recovering two stolen vehicles. Police sources identified the arrested car thieves as Narayan Das, Bikash Sarkar, Ripun Dutta (all from West Bengal), Mintu Chanda, Subham Dhar (both from Golaghat), Biki Dutta of Jorhat, Somvalang Shaktimi of West Khasi Hills and Tengstor Nangabit of East Khasi Hills. They were arrested separately - two from Karbi Anglong, two from Golaghat, two from Guwahati and two others from Bynihat in Meghalaya. The sources said the arrests came in the wake of over a month of investigation.

The police recovered a Bolero pick-up vehicle and an Ecosport car from their possession. The gang used to steal cars by hiring them and then doping the drivers during the journey, the sources added.
