GUWAHATI: The Kamrup Metro District Administration has made special arrangements for the safe and sound celebration of Maha Shivaratri on February 21. District Development Commissioner Atul Kumar Sarma chaired a meeting on Tuesday with the representatives of Guwahati Police, Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Health, Public Health Engineering, Tourism, and GMDA along with temples and devalayas. During the meeting, representatives of various temples including Basistha, Sukreswar, and Lankeswar were asked to provide clean drinking water, proper lightning facilities, and CCTV cameras at their premises during the celebration. The District Administration advised that the ‘Bhog’ which will be offered should be checked by the food inspector of the health department. The administration has taken special measures for the city ghats. It stressed on the importance of volunteers who should be deployed at the Uzanbazar and Lachit Ghat. Along with the police, NDRF and SDRF personnel should be deployed at the ghats and ferry services won’t be allowed after 4:30 pm. The administration instructed the Guwahati Police to be vigilant so that no untoward incident takes place by intoxicated people. As the celebrations will accumulate a lot of waste, the GMC will be responsible for the cleanliness drive after the celebrations.
