GUWAHATI: The Kamrup (Metro) district administration will take steps to set up parking areas and stoppages for public transport in the district.

Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee on Monday where officials and stakeholders were present. The meeting discussed issues related to road safety and regulations. In the meeting, the committee raised the issue of unavailability of proper stoppages and parking transport at Jalukbari, Khanapara, Basistha and other places.

The committee ordered 24 hours functioning of trauma centres at hospitals in Sonapur, Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and other hospitals for emergency treatment of road accident victims. For the availability of all information related to road accidents, authorities concerned were asked to use the Integrated Road Accident Database (IRAD) application of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

Gautam Das, Assistant Commissioner of Transport Department said that this app would help all departments concerned, including the police, to take quick action in case of road accidents and related matters.
