Kathak Kendra organizes 2-day Ramaya in Guwahati to celebrate Ram Navami

Ramaya, a 2-day festival to commemorate Ram Navami was organised at the Sri Sri Madhav Dev Auditorium and PWD auditorium in Guwahati by Kathak Kendra, New Delhi on March 29 and 30.

GUWAHATI: Ramaya, a 2-day festival to commemorate Ram Navami was organised at the Sri Sri Madhav Dev Auditorium and PWD auditorium in Guwahati by Kathak Kendra, New Delhi on March 29 and 30. The director of Kathak Kendra, also a Kathak dancer of International renown Pranaame Bhagawati was at the lead of this programme.

Ramaya is a series of events organised in Ayodhya on March 27, New Delhi on March 28 and Guwahati on March 29 and 30 with the motto to showcase the rich Indian cultural heritage and tradition through Kathak with artists from different parts of the country.

Mahant Kamal Nayan Das, the spokesperson of Ram Mandir Trust at Ayodhya, was present as the Chief Guest in Ayudha. Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Minister for Panchayat & Rural Development, Public Health Engineering, Food & Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs for the Government of Assam and Jitul Sonowal, eminent artist and the vice president at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshtra, visited the Shri Shri Madhav Dev Auditorium on March 29 and Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister for Environment and Forest, ACT-East Policy Affairs, and the Welfare of Minorities for Government of Assam, and Nritacharya Padmashree and Sangeet Natak Akademy Fellow Jatin Goswami attended the event in the PWD auditorium on March 30, 2023.

The artists in Guwahati include Vijay Srivastav from Guwahati, Sriyanka Mali and Prosenjit Mazumdar from Kolkata, Aligunjan Kalita Mudiar and Chandrani Kalita Ojha from Guwahati, Marami Medhi and her group from Guwahati, Purnashree Ghosh from Tripura, Hemanta Kalita from Hajo, Debatosh Nath from Silchar, and Bipul Chandra Das and his group from Guwahati.

Kathak Kendra, the National Institute of Kathak Dance, is a premier dance institution of the country, dedicated to promoting the practice, development, and awareness of Kathak dance as a performing art tradition as well as a component of the rich classical heritage of the nation. Kathak Kendra was established in 1964 as a constituent unit of the Sangeet Natak Akademi under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The present director of the Kathak Kendra, Pranaame Bhagawati is the first person to grace the post from the entire northeast of India.
