GUWAHATI: Although the state government had announced the construction of an elevated corridor for the tourists coming to the Kamakhya temple, the lack of clarity regarding the project has irked the local people, who stand a chance to lose their homes and businesses because of the project. It is important to note that nearly 20 houses and business houses are likely to be affected by the proposed project in the Nilachal hills, which house the Kamakhya temple along with some other temples. According to the proposed project, visitors will have easier access to the temple premises once it is completed.

Meanwhile, the locals pointed out that some of the properties, including homes and shops, have been passed down through the generations and have more emotional value than monetary value. It remains to be seen how the government convinces the local residents to let go of their properties for this project.
