GUWAHATI: After Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Barah revealed that the nexus of a section of the land mafia, advocates, and corrupt government officials involved in using fraudulent means to transfer land ownership in Kamrup (M), another Lat Mandal was arrested on Saturday. The accused is identified as Bapdhan Das (58), Lat Mandal of Revenue Circle, Dispur.
The arrest was made in the Cyber Police Station case (12/23 U/S 120 (B)/419/420 IPC, R/w Sec 66 C/66 D, IT Act) and additional sections (409/468/471 IPC). The case was registered on the complaint filed by Papu Gogoi, Circle Officer, Dispur Revenue Circle.
The Lat Mandal was arrested after interrogation in connection with the scam related to counterfeit land documents.
According to sources, a mutation order passed online in the Dharitree web portal on May 10, 2023, in a mutation case in respect of a sale deed on December 31, 1995, where no offline case record of any notice issued, field verification report by revenue officials, or order of Lat Mandal and Kunungoo were found available in the office of the complainant. Upon inquiry, the Lat Mandal reported that neither field verification nor any report was submitted in respect of the referred mutation case. Therefore, it was suspected that some unscrupulous elements hatched a conspiracy to get the mutation done by resorting to the forgery of documents and unethical means. Then, in this connection, the circle officer filed the complaint at the Cyber Police Station.
In this connection, four people have already been arrested.
