GUWAHATI: Leader of the opposition, Debabrata Saikia said, "Child marriage is a malady of society, but the actions that the government has taken to curb it cannot be a remedy. It has been years that families are married and if their husbands are taken or arrested now, how will the family survive; they should have taken the steps earlier."

He appealed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the harassment of the families should not be case and the government should take relevant steps to stop child marriage in future.

Also, he added that there are several agencies to prevent child harassment under the Assam Government, then why did not they take steps of the situation earlier rather than taking away the men. They failed to do so making the situation worse. So, he is asking these agencies should be accountable and necessary actions should be taken against it.
