Literacy key for healthy and happy society, says Prof Jagdish Mukhi

Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi has greeted the people on the occasion of ‘International Literacy Day.

GUWAHATI: Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi has greeted the people on the occasion of 'International Literacy Day. The day is observed on 8 September across the globe to promote and support the development of literacy and skills, universal access to quality education, and learning opportunities across people's lives.

Governor Mukhi, said in his message, "Literacy is crucial for a healthy and happy society. It increases a person's self-confidence and changes his attitude towards life. A person or a society who is literate can contribute to the development of the nation. They can participate in the nation-building", stated a press release.

The Governor further said, "In this era of technology, the definition of literacy cannot be confined to reading and writing only but to encompass the ability to understand and engage in many means of communication. I urge all to take a stand together to eradicate illiteracy from our society by helping the ignorant to understand the boons of literacy and make education all-inclusive through the application of technology." The Governor also harped on the need for taking a pledge on the day to bring about a paradigm shift in the literacy rate of the State.
