Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport takes Green Initiatives

PALASBARI : In concert with Nature Conservation Day 2022, the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport has taken some unique initiatives for a greener India.

The main reason for celebrating this day is to conserve animals and plants that are facing extinction from the natural environment. As part of the recent initiatives, currently 20,000 saplings, plants and trees can be found in the airport. Among them, 10,000 are indoor plants and the remaining 10,000 are outdoor plants of different varieties. The airport has currently total green cover of 5 acres' landscape, which is being developing in a speedy manner. Moreover, there are 35 varieties of plants, 10 varieties of flowers and some fruiting plants such as mango and guava are also there in the airport. Many fern varieties and Chinese varieties of indoor plants also available there. The airport is going to install of 1,050 sq ft vertical green wall at the outside of the arrival area. Also, it is developing a polyhouse for growing vegetables, indoor plants and for other ornamental plant saplings.

The airport authority is developing an irrigation system for outdoor landscape for saving water. Dripline system is also developing for hedge plants and sprinkler system is being used for the lawn area. The airport authority has planted many plants which are off-season release, like snake plants, neem tree and peepal trees which are releasing oxygen and at the same time reducing pollution. The airport has planted 600 air-purifying plants for the benefit of the passengers as well as for the stakeholders who are working day and night.
