GUWAHATI: APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) president Ripun Bora has criticized the Union budget 2020 and said “it is the longest budget with the shortest expectations.”
Bora’s statement came while addressing a press meet at the Rajiv Bhawan on Sunday. Taking a jibe at the Modi government’s slogan “Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas”, he said, “The budget is actually for business tycoons like Adani and Ambani and the vikas (development) is only happening for the BJP).
The leader said that the centre has reduced the corporate tax to help certain business giants. “Along with various other sectors, the Centre has planned to privatize 500 passenger trains. The main motive behind this is to help the upper class”, he asserted.
Speaking further, Bora lauded the Centre’s effort to develop reknown archaeological site Sivasagar however, he questioned about the progress of making Majuli a ‘World Heritage Site’. Being skeptical about the announcement of ‘Dhubri-Sadiya waterway’ in the budget, he said that it is hard to believe the government’s promises as earlier they had stated about the construction of Brahmaputra Express Highway. “It is unfortunate that the government has the allocated thousands of crore for “‘Namami Gange” but not a single penny for river Brahamaputra”, Bora added.
