GUWAHATI: Anchalik Gana Morcha (AGM) president-cum-MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan has claimed that the Congress-led Mahajoot will receive majority and form the next government in the State.
Addressing the media here on Wednesday, Bhuyan asserted that the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)-led 'Mitrajoot' cannot affect the stature of Mahajoot.
"Whoever forms the next government should restore the democratic environment of the State and work for peace and development," said Bhuyan.
The MP underlined that the AGM will work for the indigenous people of the State.
"The high-level committee's report on the implementation of Clause VI of the Assam Accord was disposed by the State government. If the Mahajoot forms government then the AGM will take initiatives whole heartedly to implement the Clause VI," said Bhuyan.
He hoped that the Mahajoot will secure 19 to 20 seats in the first phase, 20 to 22 seats in the second phase and 24 to 30 seats in the third phase.
Further, the MP expressed concern over various incidents related to EVMs in different areas of the State.
Bhuyan appealed to all political parties and people to keep a keen eye on the strong rooms where EVMs are kept.
"In various places, incidents involving EVMs have taken place. We hope that the Election Commission of India (ECI) will take strong measures in this regard," said Bhuyan.
Lastly, he alleged that the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has created hurdles to affect the autonomy of the ECI.
"The BJP is not letting the ECI work independently. Thus it is not being able to take actions against allegations leveled by various political parties on various issues related to the polls," Bhuyan added.
