GUWAHATI: Ahead of the October 17 election for the post of All India Congress Committee (AICC) president, Mallikarjun Kharge - who is one of the two contenders along with Shashi Tharoor - will arrive in the city on Monday for campaigning among party voters under the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC). According to Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Debabrata Saikia, Tharoor is also supposed to come for campaigning in the State but his schedule has not been fixed as yet.

All eligible voters under the APCC have been invited to Guwahati on Monday to interact with Kharge.

APCC president Bhupen Kumar Borah said that both he and the CLP leader will not be involved directly or indirectly in the campaigning process in accordance with the AICC's directive. He added that MPs Gaurav Gogoi and Abdul Khaleque, along with MLA Rakibul Hussain, have resigned from their party posts since they are campaigning in favour of Kharge.

Gaurav Gogoi is already campaigning for Kharge in West Bengal and the North-East as a whole, Borah said.

Meanwhile, MP Pradyut Bordoloi, who was a proposer for Tharoor, has also resigned from his party posts.
