Man jumps into River Brahmaputra from Saraighat Bridge, rescued

A young man attempted to take his life by jumping into the mighty Brahmaputra River from the Saraighat Bridge on Tuesday.

GUWAHATI: A young man attempted to take his life by jumping into the mighty Brahmaputra River from the Saraighat Bridge on Tuesday. However, he was rescued by disaster management personnel soon afterwards.

The person was identified by Hafizur Ahmed, a resident of the Baihata Chariali locality of the state. Passers-by stated that Ahmed suddenly climbed the railing of the bridge with the motive to jump into the river. Even though the people tried to stop him and reason with him, he took the plunge into the river.

The local police were informed regarding the incident and they arrived at the location with a team from the State Disaster Response Force, who managed to rescue him. The reasons for him trying to take the extreme step are not known yet and he was shifted to a medical facility for proper treatment following the incident.
