GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) demanded stringent punishment against the accused in Mariani lynching case. The body demanded that the accused should be tried at the Fast-Track Court.

AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that it is a matter of concern that similar incidents have taken place in the last few days. "The government should take initiatives with the coordination of the public to stop such people who can commit heinous crimes without worrying about its consequences. A murderer has no caste or religion," the leaders added.

AASU chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya stated that the government should take measures so that the culprits cannot escape under the lacunae of law.
