GUWAHATI: Following the cancellation of a number of previously reserved dates, the owners of marriage halls in the city are in a fix. While on one hand, the hall owners are quite concerned about the rise in COVID-19 cases in the city as well as the State, on the other hand they are worried about their business during the pandemic time.
The State government has already issuing the COVID-19 related SOP for the sector. It mandates the maximum number of guests in private functions at private venues, including marriages, to be restricted to 100 persons.
Against these backdrops, the hall owners are also facing problems in retaining their respective contractual workers during the peak business period for marriages in the State. This season usually starts in the Assamese lunar month of 'Bohag' from the middle part of April and continues till around June end. The president of 'Greater Guwahati Marriage Hall Welfare Association', Harendranath Das told The Sentinel, "The first priority is safety of people during the pandemic time. Moreover, following the cancellations of many previously booked dates by the customers, we are facing immense problems in running our business.
"Hence during this slack business period, many of our workers have also returned to their homes. We are staring at loss from the business point of view."
