Mary Kom to settle for bronze loses her semi-finals bout in World Boxing Championship

GUWAHATI: Six-time champion, MC Mary Kom loses her semi-final bout against second seed BusenazCakiroglu of Turkey in the ongoing Women’s World Boxing Championship on Saturday and will be taking the bronze back home.

The champion Cakiroglu has defeated Kom in the 51 kg category and won the bout 4-1. In the finals, she will be facing Russia's LiliyaAetbaeva.

This was Mary Kom’s eighth world medal after she achieved six world titles, which also includes an Olympic bronze medal (2012), five Asian titles, gold medals at the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games, besides numerous others.

It is also to be mentioned that, three more Indians- LovlinaBorgohain(69kg), JamunaBoro (54kg) and Manju Rani (48kg) will be fighting the semi-finals later today.

India’s performance in the event was best once in 2006, when the country bagged eight medals, including four gold, one silver, and three bronze.

In the semi-finals today, Rani will take on Thailand’s ChuthamatRaksat while Borgohain will fight against China’s Yang Liu.

Boro will be facing the top seed and former Asian Games bronze medallist Huang Hsiao Wen of Chinese Taipei.
