Mastermind of kidnapping case surrenders in Guwahati

In the Ankur Surana kidnapping case, six persons have been arrested till now.

GUWAHATI: In the Ankur Surana kidnapping case, six persons have been arrested till now. Prabal Kalita, the sixth, surrendered on Friday, while the other five were earlier arrested by the Guwahati police. On interrogating him, he admitted that he planned the entire kidnapping case. The other five arrested were identified as Rupam Das (33), Rajen Kaimal (33), Haren Das (48), and Gautam Das (27), residents of Amsing Jorabat under Satgaon Police Station, and Azaharr Choudhury (29), a resident of Hepkuchi under Baihata Police Station.

According to police, Prabal had admitted that the entire kidnapping plan was executed by him, and he got the other five involved in the case. However, Ankur's vehicle has not been recovered until now. Also, Prabal Kalita flew to Delhi and surrendered on Friday. It may be mentioned that Ankur Surana, the victim who was abducted in Guwahati, had gone out with his friends to party on February 1. When he did not return home, the family members lodged a missing person complaint at the Bharalumukh Police Station on February 2, after which the probe was launched. The investigations successfully led to the capture of the five people accused in the kidnapping case. On February 4, Ankur Surana was released with injuries from a place near Amching Tea Estate. Ankur Surana had been lured to a party at the resort PRP Valley in Amching, and while on his way, he had been abducted.

Prabal Kalita was produced before the CJM court on Friday and he was sent for seven-day police custody."
