Meet conducted in Guwahati on recitation as cultural subject in curriculum

 GUWAHATI: Under the direction of Principal Secretary, Cultural Affairs Department, Dr. B Kalyan Chakravarti, a meeting was conducted on August 4, 2023, at his office chamber, Assam Secretariat, to discuss the inclusion of recitation as a cultural subject in a curriculum.

Reciter Upam Saikia, Aboni Borah, Sephalika Bordoloi, Director of Cultural Affairs Minakshi Das Nath, Deputy Secretary Anurag Phukan, and many other members of the Government of Assam's recitation expert committee participated in the discussion.

Upam Saikia, a reciter, added that no university in the nation includes recitation in its curriculum. He also discussed the benefits of recitation for the young generation in terms of pronunciation, dialogue clarity, and other vocal art disciplines. The meeting also discussed the inclusion of the subject at the primary school level.

Principal Secretary Dr. B. Kalyan Chakraborty directed the Director of Cultural Affairs to prepare a comprehensive note for discussion at the ministerial level of the Cultural and Education Department and to send a proposal to the Sangeet Natak Akademk for inclusion of recitation as a cultural subject in the curriculum.

Additionally, it was decided that another meeting in this regard would take place on August 5, 2023, at the Assam Secretariat, a press release said.
