GUWAHATI: The All Assam Mid-day Meal Workers Union, state committee, staged a protest in front of the SSA (Samagra Shiksha Assam) Mission Directorate office on Wednesday in support of their demands, including clearing area dues. In between protests, a three-member group was invited to discuss, but they were adamant about meeting the director and urging him to solve their problems by refusing their order. Later, the director has to discuss the issues.

The director showed resentment for not clearing their dues before Bihu and Eid. The central government's share of dues has already been reached, but after the state government's share is released, the dues will be deposited in the bank accounts of workers. But the authority has not given an adjacent date for the deposition.

The general secretary of the union, Kanaklata Das, said along with the area dues, the mid-day meal scheme should be saved and the workers should be given daily wages instead of remuneration. In this regard, more protests will be staged in the month of May.
