Midday meal workers protest at Khanapara; give CM one week’s time for a discussion

GUWAHATI: Hundreds of midday meal workers came out together against government’s move to hand over the responsibility of mid day meal into the hands of NGS’s. The other demand is hike of their salary from Rs 1000 per month to Rs 9000 per month. Though midday meal workers came together with the aim to march together to Janata Bhawan, their Janata Bhawan Gherao failed, as they were stopped at the Veterinary science College playground in Khanapara by the administration.

Insisting a meeting with the chief minister, the workers said that now they are not interested to sit and have discussion with the education minister. However they stopped their protest programme, when Guwahati Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar assures them for a discussion with the chief minister. The adviser of Randhani Santha Trishna Nath said, “If chief minister does not come for a discussion within one week, we will take out massive protest programme. We will take out programmes like Janata Bhawan Gherao and even blocking the Railway lines at any time and the government will be responsible for any kind of situation.”
