GUWAHATI: Implementation of Assam Accord Minister Atul Bora on Tuesday said that the nodal Ministry of Implementation of Assam Accord is the Union Home Ministry. He underlined that the State government alone cannot implement the Assam Accord.

Bora made the statement while addressing the media following a meeting with the AJYCP (Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad) members at the latter's office here.

"The Chief Minister has given me the responsibility to head the Assam Accord Department. This is a great opportunity for me. Over the years, many governments came to power, but to date, the Assam Accord has not been implemented fully," said Bora.

The Minister pointed out that earlier the implementation of the Assam Accord was not possible due to the Illegal Migrants (Determination by Tribunals) Act.

"Now, as I have been given the responsibility, I am taking suggestions from various organizations associated with the Assam Agitation. The State government has goodwill towards its implementation," Bora added.\ AJYCP general secretary Palash Changmai said, "We have submitted a memorandum to the Minister highlighting various issues. We have demanded the government to detect and deport the foreigners who entered the State after 1971, seal the border, and implement Clause VI."

The AJYCP also underlined that it will support the re-verification of the NRC (National Register of Citizens) process if the government decides to do so. However, the government must declare to complete the process within a stipulated time.
