GUWAHATI: State Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Piyush Hazarika, in a letter to state Congress president Bhupen Bora, questioned whether Congress MLAs have been instructed to keep themselves away from the ‘Amrit Kalash Yatra’ and whether they should be invited for such government programmes in the future.

In the letter to APCC president Bora, Minister Hazarika said he has been directed to write to the former on the instruction of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He said reports suggested that the Congress MLAs have been held accountable for participating in events like the ‘Amrit Kalash Yatra’ and asked to refrain from joining such events in the future.

Piyush Hazarika said the current position of the Congress has been creating confusion. He went on to state that the Congress legislators, including the leader of the opposition, Debabrata Saikia, have been complaining that they are not being invited to government functions. He added that reports suggested that they have been asked to stay away from events organized by the government, and this has created confusion. He added that the government is organizing ‘Khel Maharon,’ Xanskritik Mahasangram,’ as well as meetings like SDLAC, Disha, etc., and he wanted to know whether the Congress legislators should be invited or not. The minister asked Bhupen Bora to make his stand clear on the issue.

He further asked whether the Congress MLAs should be invited to future events organized by the state government, asking Bora to express his view publicly.
