GUWAHATI: The Ministry of Railways has decided to extend the facility to book unreserved tickets on Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) mobile application from a distance of up to 20 km for non-suburban sections. Meanwhile, in suburban areas, the distance has been enhanced to 5 km.

Earlier, Unreserved Ticket Booking System on UTS mobile application allowed passengers in non-suburban sections to book a ticket from upto 5 km. For the suburban section, the distance restriction for booking tickets through mobile application was 2 km.

Unreserved ticketing is more convenient for passengers planning a journey at the last minute. Passengers can purchase unreserved tickets from one part of the country to another through Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) mobile application on their smart phones. The unreserved ticket can now be booked in long distance trains for all stations through UTS mobile application subject to availability. Previously purchasing of unreserved tickets through UTS mobile application could be done only for passengers travelling within a specific zone and range.

The UTS mobile application allows the booking of season tickets, monthly passes and platform tickets, saving passengers time and sparing them long queues at ticket counters. Payment can be made through wallets or through internet banking.

The UTS mobile application is available across both Android and IOS platforms and can be downloaded/installed free of cost from the respective play stores. The UTS mobile application has been widely appreciated for its usability as well as customer interface, stated a press release.
