Mock disaster drill conducted at Guwahati Refinery

GUWAHATI: An onsite disaster mock drill was conducted by Guwahati Refinery on Wednesday for the first quarter of 2022-23, stated a press release.

The scenario of the mock drill was notice of black smoke on the roof of crude tank No 81 by a contract worker who immediately informed F&S through the nearest MCP No 81. Fire was noticed in the southern region of rim seal of Tank 81.

Accordingly, information was sent to both Oil Movement & Storage (OM&S) Control room and the fire station. On being informed, an F&S team rushed to the site and started foam application through foam pourer. The fire was gradually spread to other part of the rim seal which upon consideration, Level 2 emergency was declared by the Chief-Incident-Controller and accordingly, the disaster siren was blown. In the meantime, the fire was extinguished by the F&S team and on being informed, the all-clear siren was blown.

After the drill, a debriefing session was held at the disaster control room wherein observations were shared by the observers placed at various locations. The debriefing session of the mock drill was chaired by SP Singh, Executive Director & Refinery Head, and was attended by senior officials and coordinators. The Executive Director in his remarks appreciated the efforts of all the departments in conducting the mock drill successfully and highlighted the areas which need to be taken care of.
