GUWAHATI: Members from the AJP (Assam Jatiya Parishad) Kamrup Metro District Unit and it's sister organization Jatiya Yuba Shakti took out a mock funeral pyre of the Assam Food and Civil Supplies Department to protest against the price hike situation.

The funeral pyre was later immersed into the Brahmaputra River.

The AJP has stated that the Food and Civil Supplies Department has lost its existence amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the surging prices of food items.

"Before the government closes down the department, the latter has suffered premature death. The government has left the people to die. It has allowed the unscrupulous traders to take advantage of the situation and earn profits," stated AJP president Sanjiv Bora.

He made it clear to the government and the district administration that the AJP will not sit idle but will raise its voice against the price hike crisis. "If the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) does not stop its ill practices then the AJP will follow the orders from the people of the State," added AJP secretary Pranab Deka.
