Mothers appeal to ban tobacco and save children

GUWAHATI: The Consumers’ Legal Protection Forum, Assam in association with Consumer Voice, New Delhi organized a sensitization program against the usage of tobacco, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, at VIP Road on Sunday. On the occasion, the mothers who attended the program appealed the State government and the Health Department to ban the use of tobacco and tobacco products to ‘save the life of their children’. A CLPF volunteer Nijwm Boro stated that nearly 1 crore people in the state of Assam consume tobacco and tobacco products. In Assam 32,000 thousand cancer patients are detected every year of which 70% are found at an advanced stage. 34.3% of minors of the age group 13 to 15 years consume tobacco and other tobacco products.
