GUWAHATI: MP Gaurav Gogoi raised a slew of issues, including shortage of beds for COVID-19 patients, ICUs, ventilators etc, in Assam at the discussion on the supplementary demands for Grants, 2020-2021.

Gogoi mentioned the meeting of health secretaries of the states, where the states of UP, Bihar, Assam and Madhya Pradesh faced grave shortages of isolation beds, ventilators and ICU beds. "Yet after 5 months, the Ministry [Department] of Health in Assam says that there is a shortage of hospital beds and that the Covid-19 cases are going out of control," he said, and asked the government, "Who will answer the families who have run from hospital to hospital searching for ICU beds and ventilators – the State, the Centre, the Health ministry [department] or the Finance ministry [department]?" The MP also expressed concern over the privatization of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, oil fields, and the proposed sale of the Hindustan Paper Mills in Cachar and Morigaon, a statement issued by the MP said.
