MPLAD scam: ACS officer does not appear before Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell

GUWAHATI: ACS officer Sukanya Bora, suspended in the MPLAD scam, did not turn up for interrogation by the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell today.

The CM’s SVC summoned her to appear before it today. According to sources, she showed medical grounds for her inability to appear before the investigators. However, two other accused, whose names figured in the case, appeared before the CM's SVC today. The two are members of the construction committee.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell recorded the statements of several witnesses in the case today. Two suspended officials summoned by the CM’s SVC, on the other hand, moved the Gauhati High Court seeking anticipatory bail. The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell began interrogation of the 14 persons allegedly involved in irregularities and anomalies in the execution of projects and utilization of Member of Parliament’s Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds today. According to sources, the CM’s SVC found irregularities in the execution of projects in the Barpeta, Kamrup, and Kamrup (M) districts under the MPLAD fund of Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Bhuyan. The CM’s SVC registered a case (1/2023) against 14 persons in connection with these irregularities and anomalies.
