Mrigen Das passes away at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital

Mrigen Das, who was actively associated with the six-year-long Assam Agitation, passed away at 8 am

GUWAHATI: Mrigen Das, who was actively associated with the six-year-long Assam Agitation, passed away at 8 am on Monday at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). He was 65.

A resident of Rehabari here, Das was earlier associated with the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and later with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

His last rites were performed at the Nabagraha crematorium this afternoon.

An AASU team led by its chief advisor Samujjal Bhaatacharjya and vice president Bipul Rabha laid a wreath on the mortal remains of Das, along with a team of the All Guwahati Students' Union.

Many of Das's comrades of the Assam Agitation also attended the funeral. Meanwhile, AGP president Atul Bora, working president Keshab Mahanta, the Asom Juba Parishad, the Asom Chatra Parishad and other organizations offered condolences at the Das's demise.

Das was a former councillor of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation as well as a former member of the AGP's central executive.
