GUWAHATI: My Secret Bookshelf (MSB) held its fourth meet in the city on Sunday, September 22. MSB is a book club that is primarily a WhatsApp group of book lovers who discuss topics related to books. It’s a platform for those who still believe in the idea of holding a book in their hands to feel rejuvenated. The members of the group are keeping the world of books alive. They discuss various books of different genres.
The group members belong to different parts of the country but they hold a meeting every month in Guwahati, New Delhi and Jaipur. There are a few authors too in the group. It has been noticed that Guwahati has readers who get energized about discussing and exchanging their ideas that they form after reading a book.
Recently, MSB organised their fourth meet. The highlight of the meet this month was a book swap in which the participants exchanged their books with other members of the group. One of the members was visiting Assam from Azerbaijan. She narrated her experience there and it was a matter of great delight for those belonging to Assam when she uttered the Axomiya words she had learnt here.
A dentist shared his experiences in the Gulf and talked about the rules of crossing the border being a very tricky affair. He referred to the fact that though the NRC will solve the problem of porous border, a mechanism like keeping the option of taking fingerprints for those crossing the international border seems necessary. A few books that were swapped included Daredreamers, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, Congo, Devdutta Pattanaik’s Jaya (Retelling of the Mahabharata), Shamsie’s Home Fire, Novoneel Chakraborty’s The Best Couple Ever, Rishaj Dubey’s The Voice of Silence etc. The meeting concluded with the decision that the book club would hold a book sale on October 12, in which about nine or ten authors will send their books; a few authors have agreed to participate in a book reading session too.
