National Sports Day celebrated in Gauhati University

PALASBARI: Gauhati University Post Graduate Students' Union celebrated National Sports Day on Sunday through a webinar.

Inaugurating the webinar, Dr Ranjan Kr. Kakati, Director, Students' Welfare, GU, said, "Sports teach us a lot of important life skills and also keep us physically and mentally fit." Attending as chief guest, Dr. Subhash Basumatary, former Regional Director, Sports Authority of India, Guwahati, said that National Sports Day's main goal was to promote awareness about the importance of sports and being physically active in daily life. Dr Basumatary highlighted many important points related to sports promotion and potential of sportsmanship in the north-eastern region.

Attending as a speaker, former international boxer Kalpana Choudhury highlighted many aspects of sports in Assam and shared her sports journey. Another international young sports personality in archery, Bishal Sangmai narrated how he won two gold medals in the youth world championship in archery.
