GUWAHATI: The newly-elected central executive committee of the AASU (All Assam Students' Union) will take oath and assume charge at Gauhati University (GU) tomorrow.

While president Dipanko Kumar Nath retained the post of the AASU at its Duliajan general conference held from November 18-21, Sankarjyoti Baruah was elected as the general secretary with former AASU GS Lurinjyoti Gogoi quitting the students' body, officially. The continuation of AASU adviser-in-chief Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya, on the other hand, is still uncertain at least for 10-15 days. Prior to the Duliajan general conference, he went on record saying about his retirement from the students' body. However, when a number of delegates at Duliajan requested him to continue with the AASU, he told them that he would have to talk to his conscience. "I need sometime," he said.

The new central executive team of the AASU will take oath at GU on Monday. The oath-taking will be followed by assuming charges as well.

Meanwhile, newly-elected AASU general secretary Sankarjyoti Baruah said, "After assuming charges, the new central executive committee of the students' body will hold its central executive meeting soon. Besides making Samujjal Bhattacharya's decision known, the meeting will discuss issues concerning the State that were raised during the Duliajan general conference."
