GUWAHATI: If everything goes as per the plan the vote on account budget session of the Assam Legislative Assembly will be held at the new assembly house in Dispur. The session will be held either in January or February in 2021.
Speaker HitendraNath Goswami on Tuesday visited the under constructed new assembly house and took stock of the progress status of construction. The officials of the Assembly Secretariat, PWD, PHE and other departments concerned were present at the construction site. The Speaker asked the construction firm and the departments concerned to expedite construction.
Goswami told The Sentinel that there was a plan to complete construction of the new assembly house within this year. He, however, said construction was disrupted due to the lockdown and outbreak of COVID-19. "Many persons associated with the construction firm left the State after the outbreak of COVID. But there has been a good progress of construction during the last one month. If possible we will try to conduct the vote on account budget session to be started through the Governor's speech at the new assembly house," Goswami said.
Goswami said other related construction work at the new assembly house will continue after the vote on account budget session is held. The vote on account budget session will be necessitated due to the Assembly elections scheduled to be held in April, 2021. The full budget session will be held only after the elections.
