GUWAHATI: Successful Assam Civil Service (ACS) candidate Gunjana Saikia was felicitated by the Biva-Himangshu Memorial Trust in a function held at Puberun Sangha auditorium at Beltola in the city on Sunday.

According to a press release, Gunjana Saikia, who secured 59th position in the results of the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) conducted by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), was provided free coaching by the Biva-Himangshu Memorial Trust under its Pancha-Parashmani Initiative.

Felicitating Gunjana Saikia, the chief trustee of the Biva-Himangshu Memorial Trust, Nandita Sarma Goswami said the trust has been providing free coaching to the meritorious students who are from the economically weaker section of the society to appear for various State-level and national-level competitive exams.

The Pancha-Parashmani Initiative was taken in 2020 and 65 students from various parts of the State applied for free coaching.

"A test was conducted at Beltola High School on September 30, 2020, in which two students - Gunjana Saikia and Prashanta Goel - were selected," Goswami said.

"They have been provided free coaching in Rau's IAS Study Centre in Delhi, which has been considered as one of the best coaching centres for IAS course and other civil service exams," Goswami said.

"This year, our initiative bore fruit. Gunjana secured 59th position in the recently declared CCE results," she said.

Goswami also informed that the trust has been providing financial help to nine students from various parts of the State to study from class-X to degree level.

In her address, Gunjana said that she would not have been successful if the trust had not helped her and provided free coaching for preparation for the civil service exam. The function was also attended by Chandan Kumar Saikia, advisor of the media cell of the trust.
