New building of Dispur Police Station inaugurated in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The new Dispur Police Station building at Ganeshguri near the Gopal Boro Government HS School was inaugurated on Wednesday by Guwahati Police Commissioner Harmeet Singh in the presence of Joint Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Partha Sarathi Mahanta and other police officers.

Talking to media persons, Guwahati Police Commissioner Harmeet Singh said that there was paucity of space in the old Dispur Police Station near the Assam Secretariat and the area had traffic issues. Hence, under the direction of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the police station was shifted to a new location. "The new Dispur Police Station premises have separate toilet facility, media room, cafeteria, barracks and other facilities. There is parking space and pound is being constructed for keeping seized vehicles," said Harmeet Singh.

He added that Dispur Police Station would be brought under the Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image (MOITRI) within a couple of years. Regarding the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) in the city, Singh said that no e-challans had been issued as yet for traffic rule violations but the traffic police was taking strict action against helmetless driving.
