GUWAHATI: Gauhati University (GU) changed the working hours for the teaching and non-teaching staff with effect from August 1. In this regard, the Registrar of GU issued a notification on Thursday. According to the notification, “It is notified that the working hours for all the Teaching and Non-Teaching staff of Gauhati University will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on all working days. Henceforth, the University will remain closed on all Saturdays and Sundays.”
The notice further stated, “All concerned are therefore requested to restructure their class routines and other academic and office timing activities as per this notification. It is categorically stated that fellowship holders are henceforth designated as Researcher-teaching assistants, and they are to be allotted a maximum of 30 percent of the total teaching hours in a week in the concerned Academic departments, and the rest of the teaching hours are to be distributed amongst the faculty members. Further, on every working day, a one-hour tiffin or lunch hour will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm for both the academic and administrative Departments and Offices. All Hostel Wardens are asked to ensure that the timing for serving breakfast food in the hostels is adjusted so that students can attend their classes on time. The Director, Students’ Welfare, G.U. is asked to adjust the University Bus service timing in consultation with the Secretary, University Classes, to suit the students.”
