NF Railway to observe Partition Horrors Remembrance Day

 GUWAHATI: The Government of India declared August 14 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day to remind present and future generations of Indians of the pain and suffering faced by the people of India during the partition. The partition of India is a story of unprecedented human displacement and forced migration. It is also a story of how a way of life and ages of co-existence came to a sudden end, forcing millions to seek new homes in environments that were alien and resistive. The people of India, while celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, salute those sons and daughters of the country who had to sacrifice not only their ancestral home but also their lives during the partition of India.

Along with the rest of the country, N. F. Railway will also observe Partition Horrors Remembrance Day as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. Many prominent railway stations have been selected to commemorate 75 years of India's independence, covering all the major districts of the five divisions under the jurisdiction of N. F. Railway. Exhibition stalls and hoardings displaying photographs of the pain undergone by Indians due to the partition of India in 1947 will be set up for the common people's viewing. Different programmes will be organised at the stations on this day showcasing the tragedy of partition with the participation of freedom fighters and their kin. Some of the stations where exhibitions are being organised are Katihar, Maldah Court, Samsi, Kishanganj, New Jalpaiguri, Siliguri Jn, Alipurduar Jn, New Alipurduar, New Coochbehar, Falakata, New Mal Jn, Kokrajhar, Rangiya Jn, Barpeta Road, New Bongaigaon Jn, Goalpara, Rangapara North, North Lakhimpur, Naharlagun, Guwahati, Lumding, Silchar, Agartala, Dimapur, Furketing, Golaghat, Jorhat Town, Mariani Jn, Bhojo, Moranhat, Simaluguri Jn, Sibsagar Town, Duliajan, Margherita, Ledo, Tinsukia Jn, and New Tinsukia Jn and New Tinsukia Jn and New Tinsukia Jn,In addition to this, an exhibition has also been organised at the Tindharia workshop of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).

Partition pains can never be forgotten. Millions of Indians were displaced, and many lost their lives due to mindless hate and violence. The observance of this day will help remind everyone of the need to remove social division and disharmony and further strengthen the spirit of oneness, stated a press release.
