NFR distributes more than 48,000 free meals during the lockdown phase

GUWAHATI: As a part of the all-out effort to contain the spread of COVID-19, NFR is continuing its humanitarian efforts of providing free meals to the needy section of the society. These are in addition to supplement the healthcare initiatives of the Government of India by in-house production of masks and hand sanitizer.

By maintaining social distancing, the RPF distributed nearly 11,000 free meals provided by the IRCTC till Saturday, and also about 38,000 free meals provided by various other agencies to the needy people in NFR area. On Saturday, only IRCTC in NFR provided 1,295 meals to the needy people which were distributed by RPF in Katihar, Rangiya and Lumding divisions. Various other organizations and NGOs also provided meals to more than 2,750 persons at New Jalpaiguri, Siliguri, Samsi, Manihari, Alipurduar, New Coochbehar, New Bongaigaon, Azara, Changsari, Kamakhya, Guwahati, New Guwahati, Silchar, New Tinsukia and Dibrugarh station areas during the day.

While delivering the food to the needy persons, social distancing and hygiene are being strictly observed to minimize the chance COVID-19 contamination. On the other hand, the Indian Railways provided more than 12, 30,000 free meals till Saturday. Providing meals to needy persons residing near the railway areas during this crucial period of nationwide lockdown is of great significance. Indian Railways is trying to ensure that no-one remains hungry due to lockdown, stated a release.
