NHM provides COVID vaccine and conducts camp on cervical cancer on Women's Day

The Camp was organized in collaboration with World Health Organization, Indian Red Cross Society Assam, B Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati and Assam Cancer Care Foundation.

GUWAHATI: To observe the International Women's Day, the Health Department and National Health Mission conducted COVID vaccination programmes at GMCH (Gauhati Medical Hospital and Hospital), MMCH (Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital), Sonapur District Hospital, and Dhirenpara FRU.

During the programme, women health workers, frontline workers, and ailing women above the age of 45 years were given COVID vaccination. As many as 26 inmates of Seneh Old Age Home were vaccinated at the MMCH.

The programme was attended by Health and Family Welfare Commissioner Secretary Samir Sinha, NHM Director Dr Lakshmanan S, NHM Officer on Special Duty Pomi Baruah, among several other doctors.

Meanwhile, a Cervical Cancer Screening Camp for women of age group 30 to 60 years was organized by NHM, Assam at Red Cross Hospital, Chandmari.

The Camp was organized in collaboration with World Health Organization, Indian Red Cross Society Assam, B Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati and Assam Cancer Care Foundation.

In this camp, Cervical Cancer screening was conducted where the targeted beneficiaries were about 100 women who include the ASHAs, ANMs and GNMs working under health dept in addition to the local women population.

In his opening remarks during the Camp, NHM Director Dr. Lakshmanan S expressed his gratitude to all the Women Health Care workers for their immense contribution during the COVID pandemic. He said that in the health sector minimum of 70 per cent service is being offered by women. Focusing on the screening of Cervical Cancer he said that Cervical Cancer can be prevented and can be completely eliminated if screened at the pre-cancerous stage and in all the Primary Health Centers - Health and Wellness Centers under NHM, Assam this screening facility is available. He further urged all the women who had undergone the screening to spread the message in the community so that more ladies come out to do the screening.
