Nigerian drug peddlers nabbed in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: In a special operation against drugs, the Guwahati city police under Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Partha Sarathi Mahanta has busted an international drug trafficking racket by arresting two Nigerian nationals, identified as Ifeanyi Charles Okuakaj and Emmanuel Enuma Dike, from the Guwahati Railway Station on Saturday night.

The two peddlers were arrested from the Dibrugarh-bound Rajdhani Express and 20 gm of cocaine and some other incriminating documents were seized from their possession. The police had keeping them under surveillance from the time they left Delhi.

The estimated value of the cocaine is around Rs 2 lakh. The police also seized fraudulently-obtained PAN cards and Aadhar cards from them. In this connection a case has been registered at the Panbazar Police Station (No 55/ 2022, u/s 120(B)/468/471 of IPC, r/w 22(B) of NDPS Act; 3/4 of Passport (Entry into India) Act and Rule 6 of Passport (Entry into India) Rules.

According to the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), the two Nigerian nationals had come to Guwahati from Guwahati. The narcotic drug was meant for sale in Assam and other States of the North-East the behest of an international drug cartel. Some local persons are also involved in the racket, the officer said.
