Night Curfew from 6 pm to 6 am in Kamrup (M) from July 20

The Night Curfew in the Guwahati city region will now be applicable from 6 pm to 6 during the Unlock 1.0 phase

Guwahati: The Assam Government has announced a partial lifting of the ongoing lockdown in Kamrup (Metro) from Monday, July 20 onwards, announced the Government's Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna.

The Assam Chief Secretary said that in the upcoming days, the curfew timings in the Kamrup (Metro) region shall be revised to last from 6 pm in the evening to 6 am in the morning.

The lockdown restrictions were brought into effect on June 28 to arrest the spread of the COVID-19 virus that has infected over 20,000 people across the state. The Government took the drastic decision to impose the lockdown after reports of the spread of the virus at the community level in persons without travel history.

Kumar Sanjay, in a press interaction, opined that the until the pandemic situation is resolved completely, people will have to adapt themselves and behave as per the Government's prescribed rules and restrictions. However, the Assam Chief Secretary announced that the Government is lifting the restrictions in the urban area to get the economic activities back on track.

Yesterday, 1,218 more COVID-19 cases were detected in Assam, out of which 570 cases were reported from Guwahati. With this spike in the number of cases, the tally stood at 21,864 with 7,705 of the cases 'active' ones. Patients were discharged throughout the day and in total, 551 people were sent home after recovering from the dreaded disease.
