GUWAHATI: Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has asserted that there would not be any crisis or shortage of beds for COVID-19 patients in government hospitals in the city for the next one week.

Sarma told reporters at the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) premises on Saturday afternoon that even though the number of COVID-19 patients is increasing on a daily basis in the city, the government hospitals — including the GMCH and the MMCH — have adequate number of beds.

"We are also discharging the recovered patients quite on regular basis. Under such circumstances many beds become vacant. Besides this we are creating new beds at GMCH. Under such circumstances there will not be any shortage of beds in government hospitals in the city for the next one week," said the Minister.
