GUWAHATI: The 5-day exhibition on traditional craftworks of northeast organised by the North East Women Entrepreneurs’ Association (NEWEA) was inaugurated at the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi) house on Wednesday. The exhibition was inaugurated by founder president of NEWEA Bandana Hazarika.
In connection with the inauguration, talking exclusively to The Sentinel, NEWEA general secretary Sazida Begum said, “The exhibition has been organised with an objective to empower the women artisans of north east. The vision is to bridge them with a larger market so that their produce can catch the right clients.”
The NEWEA general secretary further informed The Sentinel that except Tripura, group and individual vendors from rest of the north eastern states have been participating in the exhibition. “We have given free space for exhibiting the produce of the Guwahati Central Jail,” she added.
Notably, altogether 54 stalls have been fetching numerous products in the exhibition. It includes black and white rice of Manipur, crafts of Sikkim, traditional costumes of Nagaland and traditional jewelleries of Assam besides others.
