Northeast Frontier Railway focusing on upgrading tracks to augment safety

In a bid to enhance safety of railway track and provide a much more comfortable travel to rail passengers

GUWAHATI: In a bid to enhance safety of railway track and provide a much more comfortable travel to rail passengers, the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway undertook several track renewal works during the month of August last.

NF Railway has carried out several track maintenance works to enhance safety and increase train speeds. According to a press release, 27.45 km of plain tracks has been deep screened by cleaning impervious layer of dust, sand ashes etc., from ballast during the month of August, making a cumulative progress of 86.53 km between April and August this year. Through Sleeper Renewal of more than 21.72 tkm has been done during the month of August, making a cumulative progress of 48.20 tkm up to the month. Through Turnout Renewals of 49.75 equivalent sets have been done during the month of August, making a cumulative progress of 82.50 sets up to the month. Nineteen bridges have been rehabilitated during the month of August, making a cumulative progress of 80 bridges up to the month.

Moreover, 1,799.41 km of track has been tested by USFD (Ultra Sonic Flaw Detection) machine during the month of August, making a cumulative progress of 8,982.94 kilometres up to the month. USFD technique is carried out to detect flaws like cracks and timely removal of defective rails for safety.

Railway tracks are replaced through track renewal works which is an ongoing process. The process of track renewal with the help of track machines saves time and good quality work can be achieved in the least possible time with minimal effect on normal train movement.
