GUWAHATI: As a part of the 'Digital India' initiative, the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway has introduced Hand Held Terminals (HHTs) in several trains to make onboard ticket checking easy, transparent and digitalized.

According to a press release, NF Railway has provided a total of 185 HHTs to be implemented at several trains originating from five divisions of the zone. Out of 185 HHTs, Katihar division was provided with 78 HHTs., Alipurduar division with 24 HHTs, Rangiya division with four HHTs, Lumding division with 57 HHTs and Tinsukia division was provided with 22 HHTs that were to be introduced in originating trains of the divisions.

Several trains like the Guwahati-Naharlagun Vistadome, originating from Naharlagun, Rajdhani Express originating from Dibrugarh, Saraighat Express originating from Guwahati, Capital Express originating from New Jalpaiguri, Capital Express originating from Kamakhya etc., along with several other trains, were introduced with this digital form. In fact, HHTs will be introduced in all the trains of NF Railway in a phased manner in the coming days. Till now, nearly 8,000 passengers were checked in using this digital method at several trains of NF Railway where HHT was introduced.

The introduction of HHTs enables the ticket checking staff on-board to verify status of the passengers list travelling with reservation of the entire train with ease. It also helps to verify the vacant berths and allot the same to passengers between identified destinations in a wholly transparent manner. Thus, HHT is a digital platform that helps with elimination of carrying the physical charts and doing manual entries by the duty staff on-board.
