Novel traffic management system in 20 city locations by August 15

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Smart City Limited (GSCL) is gearing up to commission an Integrated Traffic Management System at 20 locations in the city, with the Command and Control Centre at Ulubari, by August 15 next in the first phase.

According to sources, the project envisages setting up of Adaptive Traffic Control (ATCS) along with Signalized Pedestrian Crossing at 94 traffic junctions in the city. The project also covers setting up of Traffic Violation Detection Systems (TVDS) at these 94 traffic junctions. Other features of the project will include camera-based Automatic Number Plate Recognition System (ANPR); camera-based Red Light Violation Detection System (RLVD); camera-based Speed Violation Detection System (SVD) at 10 strategic locations; other traffic violation detection such as helmet-less riding of two-wheelers, triple riding, no seat belt, drive on phone etc. The project also envisages 24x7 video surveillance of all traffic junctions and SVD locations, along with an e-challan generation system for rule violators.

The project is being executed by M/s Technosys Security Systems Pvt Ltd. It is aimed at monitoring and controlling traffic signals using a traffic-responsive strategy based on real-time traffic flow and vehicle presence information through a camera-based vehicle detection system.
