GUWAHATI: Six observers appointed by Election Commission of India for observing different aspects for the four Assembly constituencies under Kamrup (Metro) district held a meeting with all the contesting candidates of the ensuing election in the conference hall of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (Metro) on Tuesday. Presided by Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (Metro) Biswajit Pegu, the observers asked the candidates of all parties to follow rules and regulations during campaigning of their candidature.
Expenditure observer mentioned in the meeting that a candidate has to maintain a maximum expenditure of Rs 30.80 lakh and to maintain the limits of cash transaction of Rs 10,000 per transaction as per election expenditure norms fixed for the candidate. The Police Observer has requested the candidates in the meeting to contact him at any time for breach of any law-and-order situation. On the other hand, District Election Officer, Biswajit Pegu asked the political parties to end bike rallies before 72 hours of commencement of polls, as per ECI guidelines. It may be mentioned that Election Commission of India has appointed six observers for Kamrup (M) district - Suparna Das Ahamed, Mal Singh Bhayadiya, Renu Jaipal as General Observers and Rajani Rani Roy, Chanchal Meeena as Expenditure Observers as well as Sandeep Mittal as Police Observer, a press release said.
